Thanks for stopping by Nithya's Kolam designs
This is Nithya Naveen. This website is dedicated to my mom Mrs Thenmozhi Dharanipathy.
Kolams are geometrical designs and patterns drawn before the entrance of home and pooja rooms in India. It is drawn to invite Goddess Lakshmi into the house and to drive away evil spirits. Every morning and evening, it is an Indian tradition to clean the home entrance, wash with cow dung and draw kolams. Rice powder is used to draw kolams as it will serve as a food to small insects and ants. Lot of Kolam types exist.
My mom is an expert in drawing Kolams  Mostly she draws free hand kolams. During my early child hood days there will be two kolams in our house entrance. One drawn by my mom and other by me.  I was 5 years old, when she taught me the first kolam. During Festival seasons, there will be a competition among the neighbours for drawing best and quick rangoli. My mom has captured 1000 of her kolam in 3 kolam books 30 years ago. Some one got her 2 kolam books and forgot to return it back (May be Intentionally). Luckily I have one of her kolam book now.  After coming to America, I am not getting a chance to draw Kolams. So this website is my humble attempt to share my mom's Kolam collections. Different name exists for this Rangoli art in India. Kolam in Tamil Nadu, Muggulu in Andhra, Hase in Karnataka.
